Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition for Robin Kandel, opening Wednesday, January 11, 2012.

Robin Kandel’s new body of work continues from the lakewater series that began in 2008. Unlike the earlier series, whose biomorphic forms were made intentionally unreadable, this series developed from a system of methodically striking lines across the surface of the panel, drawing from memories that are perhaps bigger and better than reality. Abiding by this new method Kandel eliminates making choices, decisions and changes. As the lines build up on the surface, an unpredictable interference of pattern and optical effects are created, mimicking the ripples and reflections of lake water.

Robin Kandel received her BFA in painting at the University of Michigan in 1983 and was awarded the Pollack-Krasner Foundation Grant in 2001. She has exhibited at Mirage Gallery, Tokyo, Japan; Gallery ef Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan; Sesnon Gallery, University of California, Santa Cruz, CA and the Slusser Gallery, Ann Arbor, Michigan and various other shows.

Andrea Schwartz Gallery was established in 1982 and is located in the South of Market district of San Francisco. ASG exhibits contemporary work of emerging to mid-career artists from the Bay Area and across the country. ASG is a member of SFADA. Gallery Hours are Monday - Friday 9 - 5, Saturday 1 – 5.
