San José, California – October 05, 2012 – The Landmark Ballroom at the San José Woman’s
Club will proudly open its doors to host La Ultima Parada: A celebration of Life on the Day of
the Dead on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 6:30pm.
The event will feature altar displays, traditional food, live music and dead vendors. La Ultima
Parada’s commendable gathering of musicians, artists and dancers will have a central focus
which will be the Day of the Dead Altars commemorating and celebrating the lives of our loved
ones who have already passed.
Guest artists will include Atilano Lopez de Michoacan, México, Son y Alma, Tezcatlipoka Aztec
Dance and Drum, Colibrí, Mariachi Alegre, Alegria de San José, Los Laureles, Flor de México,
Los Colibrí de Adelante and México Vivo. La Viejada, a masked dance representing deceased
loved ones, will also be featured as a way to welcome all souls coming back to visit at their last
stop.
La Ultima Parada is being produced by Maria Luisa Colmenarez, Rick Moreno, Barbara Perez-
Diaz and Chris Esparza and its partly sponsored by the San José Woman’s Club.
The San José Woman’s Club is located at 75 S 11th St, San Jose, CA. The San José Woman’s
Club has been a formal organization since 1894, when nine women first gathered to discuss
forming an alliance. In past decades, the building was available only by the referral of a club
member, but today the doors are open to the general public with advance reservation. In 1986 the
building was declared San José Landmark #32. The San José Woman’s Club honored its 100th
anniversary with a celebration in 1994, and the organization continues to serve women and the
community in the new millennium.
