Description
The Kuumbwa Jazz Honor Band features Santa Cruz County's most gifted young jazz musicians. Representing six high schools and led by music educator Steve Wilson, the audition-based jazz band challenges students to gain a mastery of improvisation techniques while advancing their knowledge of music theory, arranging, composing, performance, and jazz history. The band rehearses and performs around the Monterey Bay area over the course of the school year. For fifteen years, Kuumbwa Jazz has provided this unique opportunity to deserving young musicians, some of whom have gone on to successful careers as jazz musicians and composers.
