Description

Join Kitka and Kostroma for an evening of ancient Slavic songs, dances, and rituals intended to summon love, marriage, fertility, and abundant harvests. These powerful women's ensembles bring diverse yet complimentary perspectives to the organically improvised harmonies and primal rhythms of Russia's vast cultural landscape.

Kostroma, the vocal ensemble of Russian House Kedry, presents authentic renditions of folksongs and dances rarely heard outside of Russia's remote rural villages.

Kitka, is a professional ensemble of singers who share a passion for the stunning dissonances, asymmetric rhythms, intricate ornamentation, lush harmonies, and resonant strength of Eastern European women's vocal traditions.

The collaboration is part of Kitka's Song Routes in a New Land project, an initiative that explores the preservation and transformation of ethnic music traditions among California's Eastern European immigrant communities.
