Join us for the famous Kabuki dance drama, "The Bridegroom’s Journey," part of "The 47 Ronin," one of the most popular samurai revenge tales of all time! No need to have studied prior parts; this drama is a self-contained story.The lovers Kampei and Okaru were busy having a secret rendezvous at the exact moment when Kampei's lord needed him most. Filled with remorse and pursued by the evil Lord Morono's men, the two lovers try to escape to Okaru's home in the country.
This bittersweet dance drama, at turns moving and comical, is one of the most beautiful and colorful in the Kabuki repertoire.
This free screening features a brief introduction to Kabuki, the 47 Ronin, and the act. The film has English subtitles.
