Description

Calling all Bay Area artists, activists, novelists, aspiring writers, slam poets, community builders, and poetry lovers!

On March 16th & 17th, UC Berkeley will host the 20th Anniversary Celebration of June Jordan’s Poetry for the People (P4P), an arts and activism program at UC Berkeley that pursues Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of a beloved community for all through poetry.

Patricia Smith, a National Poetry Series/Pushcart Winner, and four-time National Poetry Slam Champion, will headline this event, which will also feature many talented alumni from P4P.

On FRIDAY the 16th, at 7pm, a FREE Evening of Poetry will be held at 145 Dwinelle Hall, featuring published authors of the P4P Student Teacher alumni.

On SATURDAY the 17th, from 10am-10pm, a FREE daylong Conference featuring workshops, panels, performances, open-mics, and book signings, in the UC Berkeley Multicultural Center. At 7pm, an Evening of Poetry featuring Patricia Smith, P4P students, alumni, and Bay Area artists & poets.

Both evenings will be hosted by P4P Director Aya de Leon.

The Conference is FREE.
The 7pm Evening of Poetry on Saturday is by Suggested Donation:
$20 General Admission
$15 College students w/ ID
$5 Youth 18 & Under w/ ID (ltd qty)

All are welcome and encouraged to come celebrate the legacy of the program’s founder June Jordan, and commemorate the impact that Poetry for the People has had, over the last 20 years.
