One of the most innovative and versatile artists currently recording, Jahdan Blakkamoore has long made a name for himself as a gifted and inspiring reggae/dancehall/hip hop/dubstep artist, both nationally and internationally. Originally from Guyana, he moved to Brooklyn at a young age, soaking up all the music the city had to offer. He is equally at ease providing the proper soundclash pedigree to a rap classic like Smif ‘n’ Wessun’s “Soundbwoy Bureill,” performing alongside Diplo & Switch for a club full of hipsters at a Major Lazer show, or artfully riding cumbia and dubstep riddims selected by the Dutty Artz crew. If a nomad soul such as this can be said to have a musical homeland, though, that homeland is classic one-drop reggae, which has anchored Blakkamoore’s music from the very beginning.

That makes his sophomore album Babylon Nightmare (Lustre Kings) a kind of homecoming. Blakkamoore’s relationship with Andrew “Moon” Bain, chief producer at Lustre Kings, stretches back to 2005 with a tune called “Beauty of the Beast.” It was voiced over the Lustre Kings’ and Zion High Productions’ Liberation riddim, and ultimately made its way onto the Take Charge LP Blakkamoore released with his group Noble Society. Take Charge was voted iTunes Best Reggae Album for 2008, an honor Blakkamoore’s solo debut, Buzzrock Warrior, won again in 2009. Showcasing the Dutty Artz crew--Matt Shadetedk, Dj/rupture, Blakkamoore, and Geko Jones--Buzzrock Warrior also featured contributions from Modeselektor, Jammer, Chanda via Circuito (Zizek), Maga Bo and 77Klash. Blakkamoore and Bain’s collaboration has continued to the present day, resulting in compositions that form the core of Babylon Nightmare, as well as some of his best-known songs for other producers, including the brilliant “Cash Flow,” the critically-acclaimed contribution to the Major Lazer project. Though he had made his name as a singjay in the mold of dancehall legends like Tenor Saw and Nitty Gritty, Babylon Nightmare finds him pushing the envelope. For the first time he truly sings over live one drop arrangements in a spirit more in keeping with the golden age of roots reggae. Fittingly, although it includes tracks from an eclectic array of producers--including Lion Dub, DJ Child from Project Groundation, Nick Fantastic and the Zion I Kings—the first release from the album, “All Comes Back to One” is a Bain production which showcases Blakkamoore’s melodic intelligence at its brightest, framed by the acoustic guitar-driven track like a gemstone in a subtle gold setting. Blakkamoore himself describes it, "My finest work to date, I could sing these songs for years to come..."

Through many years of delivering command performances and recordings in the U.S., Europe and Japan, Blakkamoore has amassed a large fan base, and worked with the likes of Branford Marsalis, Dj Premier, Afu Ra, and Dead Prez. He has appeared at Summer Stage in Central Park, NY, and the Reggae Rising Music Festival in California, where he shared the stage with Marcia Griffiths, The Original Wailers, Tony Rebel, Lutan Fyah, Rootz Underground, and Queen Ifrica.
