Yes, the tradition of the poetry slam started in Chicago over ten years ago and still rages strong here in the small town of Santa Cruz. We hold slam events every 1st and 3rd Monday at local Cypress Lounge. All are welcome to sign up – we keep a scoreboard and every few months run a finals events. Each show also has a feature poet from the national scene.

Upcoming features:
Dec 7th:
Buddy Wakefield (two time World Poetry champion – buddy's confessional poetry has launched him on six consecutive national tours).

Dec 21st:
Mike McGee (the first and only poet to ever win a World Poetry slam with comedic poetry, nobody in the slam community understand humor like the mighty mighty Mike).

Jan 4th:
Denise Jolly (“Denise’s work has been known to cause spontaneous eruptions of tears as well as riotous laughter. Do not be afraid, it will only hurt in the right way.” Daemond Arrindell)

Jan 18th:
WoWps finals (We have been keeping scoreboards of winning poets for months, now, the top 10 female poets compete for a chance to represent santa cruz at the women of the worlds poetry slam in Columbus Ohio)
