Description
The Impressionists are at the de Young! Come spend an evening at the Institute in Cupertino for an in-depth visit with one of these great painters of the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movement: Manet, Renoir, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Gauguin, or Van Gogh. Manet was the mentor and inspiration for a group of young painters who set aside the strictures of the Paris Salon in favor of painting the effects of light on their subjects. Renoir and his friend Monet created Impressionism. Degas refined it and created a vision of movement and action in his fabulous paintings of dancers and actors. Toulouse-Lautrec, in his posters and illustrations, showed the decadent side of life in late 19th century Paris. Gauguin’s experimentation with brilliant colors and native subjects paved the way for 20th century expressionism. And in a life of only thirty-seven years, Van Gogh managed to paint some of the most unforgettable paintings of the modern era. Our evenings will take place in the relaxed, informal setting of our learning center and will be led by Prof. William Fredlund, Ph.D., who has taught at Stanford, UCSC-Extension, and the University of Florence, and who is one of Silicon Valley’s most popular lecturers.AUG 5: AN EVENING WITH MANET
