Description
The Exploratorium kicks off this Antarctic season with a series of nearly 20 Webcasts, every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, starting December 7 through January 4, 2009, at 1pm. Ice Stories: Dispatches from Polar Scientists (http://icestories.exploratorium.edu), is an ongoing series of blogs and live Webcasts following the adventures of research scientists in Antarctica and the Arctic. On December 14, at 11am and 2pm, we screen the documentary Ice People and then meet real scientists via the live 1pm webcast.Go to the Exploratorium web site for updates on specific webcasts, which explore what it’s like to be a research scientist in Antarctica, the coldest, driest place on earth, working with Adélie penguins, uncovering the latest information about climate change, or exploring unique polar geology. The Exploratorium also has also given polar scientists cameras and blogging tools and asked them to document their adventures on Ice Stories: Dispatches from Polar Scientists (icestories.exploratorium.edu.)
Ice People (2007, 77 min.) by Anne Aghion, is a beautifully shot documentary bringing a remote corner of the southern world into vivid focus through the lives of four geologists based in Antarctica’s McMurdo station. After the screening, meet the scientists themselves -- they'll speak with us at 1pm via live Webcast from Antarctica.
