I Love California

Description

The Peninsula Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art will present a member exhibition titled I Love California. The exhibition, open to the public, will be held from August 1, 2012 through January 31, 2013 at the Milton Marks Conference Center Galleries, San Francisco. Gallery hours are 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Mondays through Fridays.

I Love California includes artwork by emerging and professional women artists Beate Amler, Della Calfee, Claire Erlin, Annamaria Kusber, Rebecca Lambing, Ellen Lee, Kim McCool Nelson, Alysanne McGaffey, Yvonne Newhouse, Nora Raggio, Jeanette Sacco-Belli, Bonnie J. Smith, Francine Survilo, Leigh Toldi, Cristina Velazquez and Marian Yap. The works on display cover a broad range of two-dimensional mediums that include oils, acrylic, fiber art, watercolor, mixed media and photography. The exhibit provides the viewer a look into the artist’s interpretation of living within California with its idealized golden land of mountains, oceans and cities.

"Sunshine State'" by Della Calfee highlights our state flower. Calfee says, "Dreams arise when gazing through the sheer petals of our California state flower. Vivid blooms evoke vitality, sunshine and the wild spirit of both the state and its inhabitants."

Yvonne Newhouse’s watercolors are of fruits grown in California, that recognize the abundance in California's Central Valley; and, Annamaria Kusber’s oil reflects her love for sunny California and its people of all colors. Inspired by Haiku poetry, Marian Yap used threads in her work to represent the diversity of California’s population and its cultural richness.

Bonnie J. Smith and Rebecca Lambing both say that California is about the availability of water resources for recreation. Bonnie with a textile of a swimmer and Rebecca’s painting, inspired by a day spent kayaking on Independence Lake near Truckee.
