The Burn is over and it's time for San Francisco's premier season: The Indian summer. The nights are warmer, the tourists are fewer... and the house music... well, it's crackin'!
In keeping with our history of bringing guests who are essential to the history of house music, for this week's edition of Housepitality, we bring you Alton Miller, a man who needs no introduction for those who love the Detroit house sound. With well over a hundred tracks in his discography, a list of label affiliations to drool over, and a joint residency with Chez Damier (our former guest!), the man is an obvious pick for the Wednesday night Icon booth. We are extremely happy to hear this set. You will be too.
Making his first main room appearance for us—he played the Groove Lounge for our NextAid benefit—is San Francisco-based DJ Said (pronounced "SIGH-EED") of Fatsouls Records. DJ Said and Fatsouls threw parties locally for 10+ years before successfully turning their enterprise into a strong independent record label that has worked with artists like Francois K, Joe Claussell, Kerri Chandler, and Ron Trent. Along the way, Said has picked up the skills necessary to rock the party right.
Finally, Housepitality friend and Harlum Muziq member Ivan Ruiz will open up our main room with his soulful house music sound. A skilled DJ and great supporter of what we do, we're very happy to finally have him play for us.

Alton Miller Bio:
Alton comes to the world painting a musical canvas. Molded, shaped and reared on Stevie Wonder, Santana, Parliament Funkadelic and the Philadelphia sound, he grew to be an avid clubber. On a frenzied tour of clubs in North America Alton began honing his skills under the electrifying energies of Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan and Timmy Regisford. Alton, along with his friends, set out to recreate the energy and atmosphere they experienced in the clubs and opened the world renowned dance club the music Institute. The Music Institute was one of the epicenters of the underground House Movement where Alton and Chez Damier shared a residency on Saturday nights helping to create the musical volcano that erupted worldwide in 1988. Altons affinities for rhythms inspired him to take up conga drumming, leading to an accompaniment for the locally based Katherine Dunham Dance Company. Drumming and its connections to rhythms of all music have proven to be influential to his musical growth.. In 1991 Alton recorded his first release Pleasure Baby for Serious Grooves/KMS Records. His second release, I Like Having You was a debut for his vocal talents. Dusk was recorded under the pseudonym Aphrodisiac and was critically acclaimed on both European and North American charts. Since his early recordings Alton has amassed worldwide success and exposure as a House music producer / dj. Alton has recorded and released music for some of the best independent labels in the industry. Guidance Recordings and BPM Records were plateaus for Altons inner growth as a musician and songwriter / producer. Past and recent releases include recordings for Planet E, King Street/Nitegrooves, Trackmode Records, Moods and Grooves and KDJ. Alton teamed up with vocalist / playwrite Dorothea Sharon on their debut single Glory for the Japanese label Life Line Records. In September 2003, Alton debuted on Peacefrog, with his first album Stories from Bohemia. The recent release of Chose to Believe (Original full vocal) and My Life on Deeper Soul Recordings out of Chicago debuted at ..42 on the DJ Mag Breaks and Beats chart. Altons remix credits to date include: Sean Deasons Allegory Metaphor on Intuit-Solar, Jacob Desvarieuxs An Di Adie on Distance, Kenny Carvels Rise featuring the late John Redmond on Music 101 and Lorcas I Cry featuring Mandel Tuner on F-com. From 1989 to present Alton has toured Canada, Chile, England, France, Japan, Switzerland, Australia, Puerto-Rico and various other countries defining House music as he has experienced and lives it. His intimate connection with the drums and varied African influenced rhythms result in compositions that move people physically and emotionally. Hearing Alton dj defines what House music is all about.

DJ Said:
Hailing from Lagos, Nigeria, Said grew up in the very same community that produced the legendary Fela Kuti, father of afro-beat and innovator of funk. From a young age he was passionate about music, making mix tapes and DJing for his friends, and spending his nights at Fela Kuti's nightclub, Shrine. With this strong musical foundation, Said decided to leave Lagos and head to London to pursue an academic career, but while he was there he also became involved in the underground dance scene. When he came to the U.S. in 1988, he found himself becoming more and more fascinated with the music scene and soon he was DJing in clubs in San Francisco and New York. He went on to found Fatsouls, his "supersonic campaign outlet", as well as its monthly party Atmosfere.
