Description
Some people write songs for the fame, the fun or the money, and some people make music to take a stand for social change. Holly Near proudly inhabits the second category, building a solid career from long years of folk and protest music in defense of the causes she believes in, from anti-Vietnam War tours in the '70s to present-day advocating for LGBT rights. Beyond her musicianship and activism, Near is a teacher of both songwriting and the history of social change. So I think it's safe to say that she's making a pretty positive impact on the world.
