Description
Join the directors of Oakland’s Hip Hop for Change for an important community conversation that will center around the #blacklivesmatter movement and reclaiming/reframing Hip Hop culture from corporate media. The conversation will cover current events in the U.S. with respect to race and how these events are perceived depending on where and how one is raised, and the class, race and gender privileges that factor into that perception; and how all of these elements relate to hip hop! Then, following the staged reading of Tearrance Chisholm’s Hooded, or Being Black for Dummies, enjoy a performance featuring local hip hop emcees J’Mal, Frank Vencci and Jay Peezy before Kara Lee Corthron's "Welcome to Fear City".You can now purchase the All-In Hip Hop Package, which includes a boxed lunch for the 1:30pm Hip Hop for Change event, tickets to the 4pm reading of "Hooded" and 8pm reading of "Welcome to Fear City," and a pre-event cocktail before the 8pm show.
