High School Art Exhibit at the Art Museum of Los Gatos

The Museums of Los Gatos announces an annual, juried High School Art Exhibition for

Santa Clara County high school students. A total of $10,000 will be awarded to student artists including a
$5,000 Grand Prize Scholarship toward professional development in the arts. The exhibit runs from May 4 – May 13 at The Los Gatos Art Museum located at 4 Tait Avenue in downtown Los Gatos.

The 2012 High School Exhibition theme, Social Matters, spotlights youth perspectives by posing the
question “What Matters?” to high school students and asking them to visually communicate their
perspectives about social issues. All Santa Clara County high school students, from public and private
schools or those being home‐schooled, are eligible to participate.

Artwork categories include: painting, photography, drawing, new and mixed media, and 3‐D sculpture and
ceramics. Students may submit up to three entries online and the submissions will be juried prior to the
exhibition. In addition to the $5,000 Grand Prize Scholarship, awards will be presented to top‐scoring
entries in each category. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, April 25, 12:00 midnight.

Works accepted into the exhibition must be framed by the participating artists and be delivered to the
museum ready to hang. The artists will also participate in the exhibit installation. In addition, participants
will be invited to a professional framing demonstration with local experts and to a panel discussion by
prominent artists, educators and curators immersed in the art field about the realities of being a working
artist today.

The show will run for ten days with an Opening Reception, Awards, and Silent Auction on May 9, from 6‐9 pm.
