Ivana Ristic Unravels the History of Fashion

San Francisco, CA – June 19, 2009 – Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” Fashion has come a long way from the figure-enhancing corset to the skinny jean. And Serbian fashion designer, Ivana Ristic, wants to tell her version of fashion history- and its future.

Ivana Ristic will grace San Francisco and reveal HERstory: a solo art and fashion exhibition presented by Missing Piece Productions at the Design Guild SF Gallery. The opening reception will be held August 13th from 7 to 9 pm.

Through fashion illustrations, photography, and a new design collection, HERstory shows the artist's process of shape modification and garment deconstruction to transform men's clothing into distinctly feminine clothing. The new origami-like shapes of each garment playfully draw inspiration from different centuries, beginning in 19th century and extending into the future. Several of Ristic's designs will be on sale and will be modeled throughout the gallery.

A complimentary catalogue of Ristic’s work will be given to each guest at the door with the $5 admission fee. HERstory will continue to be on display during gallery hours: Tuesdays through Saturdays from 12 to 6pm until the show closes on August 27th.
