Heart of the City Farmers Market -- an independent, farmer-run, non-profit farmers market since 1981 -- brings high-quality and reasonably priced produce from small local farms to the heart of San Francisco. The market is open every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday year-round, rain or shine, and features over 80 vendors, including a large lunch food section on Wednesdays. Because it is run by its farmers, this unique market model supports and sustains California's small-scale growers in the most direct way possible, while keeping prices low for the surrounding low-income community that lacks a grocery store.
