Description

What: In the world of contemporary food and wine, few trends have provoked more discussion than so-called “natural wine.” Broadly understood as a winemaking style that emphasizes low-intervention farm and cellar work, natural wine appeals to a younger generation of wine drinkers who see it as the logical extension of organic agriculture.

Many producers of natural wine, increasingly critical of the post-war boom in high-tech, high-yield winemaking, defend it as a purer expression of place and a more artisanal form of production. Others just call it wine, produced in the old-school, hands-off manner in which they have always worked.

So what exactly is “natural wine,” and how is this philosophy represented among the new generation of California winemakers? In h2hotel’s Green Room, a panel of local winemakers, sommeliers and restaurateurs will meet to explore the topic of natural wine and present a tasting of six different wines that showcase a broad range of low-intervention wine styles.

Panel Participants
• Melissa Gisler Modanlou, Rock Juice (moderator)
• Kevin Wardell, sommelier/proprietor Bergamot Alley
• Megan Glaab, Ryme Cellars
• Sebastian Pochan, Front Porch Farms
• Alexis Iaconis, wine director/Barn Diva
• Laura Brennan, Inconnu
