Description

Composed of an all-star collection of high school-aged up-and-coming jazz musicians, the Graham Messer Trio will feature the award-winning saxophonist Daiki Nakajima for this special performance.

As a 17-year old pianist, Graham Messer is an actively gigging musician throughout the Bay Area, often with his trio, featuring Aidan McCarthy on bass and Max Simas on drums. Graham has won numerous awards from the Folsom, El Cerrito and Santa Cruz Jazz Festivals, and has performed internationally at the Umbria and Montreux Jazz Festivals. He is currently a pianist with the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars.

Daiki Nakajima is an award-winning high school saxophonist, flutist and composer. He has been a part of many esteemed ensembles such as the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars and the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, and has won numerous Downbeat Student Music Awards.

Aidan McCarthy is a bassist and composer based out of Oakland. In addition to freelancing in the Bay Area, Aidan is a member of the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars and the California Jazz Conservatory’s Studio Band and Advanced Jazz Workshop. He currently studies privately with Glenn Richman.

Max Simas is a drummer from the San Francisco Bay Area. Max is currently a member of the SFJAZZ All-Stars Big Band and Combo, and has also been the drummer for the California All-State High School Jazz Ensemble.
