Description
his “hands-on” clinic on grafting techniques is for the aspiring or inquisitive urban fruit tree grower. You will learn the age-old technique of fruit tree ‘grafting’, in-which one piece of plant material is ‘grafted’ to another. This technique allows you to ‘graft’ a number of varieties onto the same tree (think of a single apple tree with 3 apple varieties on the same tree), to extend your season of ripe fruit and improve often necessary cross-pollination.You will leave with an apple tree of your own creation! A variety of apple fruit tree scions will be available (from the UCSC Alan Chadwick orchard), as well as apple root-stocks. This workshop is $15/$25 for non-members, although no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Pre-registration is required.
