Award-Winning San Francisco Documentary Filmmakers Step Up To Bat With New Baseball Film

Kickstarter Launch Party to Raise Finishing Funds is Free and Public

The award-winning documentary filmmakers of SPEAKING IN TONGUES (www.speakingintonguesfilm.info) are at it again. This time, their project is a personal one—following the coming of age journey of their thirteen-year-old son, as he embarks on a mission to send baseballs to Cuba—a act of thanks for sheltering his grandfather during the Holocaust. Collecting balls and bats seems easy, until he’s thrown a curveball. Youthful idealism collides with U.S. policy, and family history in a moving and engaging coming-of-age story that asks: what does it take to do good in the world?

On April 14th, from 4-7 p.m., PatchWorks Films is hosting a launch party for their campaign to raise funds to finish the film. The event is hosted by Sports Basement, 1590 Bryant Street, San Francisco. The free public event features food, live Cuban music, and never-before-seen clips from the forthcoming film. You can donate-to-win baseballs signed by San Francisco Giant’s legends, tickets to San Francisco Giants and Oakland A’s games, original Cuban and American art, gift certificates to Sports Basement, and more. Party-goers can shop Sports Basement at 10% off, too. All donations are tax deductible.

After April 6th, you can learn more about the project and watch the trailer at: http://kck.st/gotbalz .

You can see clips of all PatchWorks’ films at: http://www.patchworksfilms.net.

Award-winning San Francisco-based husband and wife team, Marcia Jarmel and Ken Schneider, of PatchWorks Films, have been making and distributing documentaries exploring contemporary social issues through intimate character stories since 1994. Their most recent film—highlighting the experience of kids growing up bilingual—won the Audience Award at San Francisco International Film Festival and played on PBS. Their other films have screened on public television, and at film festivals, museums, community centers, public libraries, universities, and schools around the world. In addition, Ken‘s editing work has been recognized with an Emmy, a Peabody, a Columbia-Dupont, an Indie Spirit Award, and top awards at Sundance, along with an Oscar nomination.

We hope you will run an item about the party and the film. Mica, his filmmaker parents, and his grandfather are all available for interviews. Clips from the film and photos are available for website posting as well.
