Description
FIFTY24SF Gallery is pleased to announce a new collection ofillustrations and paintings accompanied by a limited edition 'zine release by Alex Pardee.
Alex Pardee's unique style has developed through years of watching horror movies, listening to gangster rap, reading comics and his own mental war with depression. After months of hospitalization and many futile attempts of seeking out professional help, Pardee has finally overcome his battle with severe depression and anxiety through his own form of therapy: art. Pardee's love for drawing and painting spawns from a fascination with the grotesque images, like that of Garbage
Pail Kids and Tales from the Crypt comics. Pardee first began as an artist through graffiti, and producing 'zines containing collections of his sketches. Self-promoting his underground 'zines around the Bay Area by placing them between the pages of tattoo and porn magazines, in clinic waiting rooms, and public bathrooms, they quickly gained him artistic recognition. By using the streets as his personal canvas and Xerox machine, Pardee has since been able to overcome his emotional setbacks and move forward in the world of artistic expression.
In 1999, Alex Pardee reprinted his 'zines professionally, and in 2000, he released the book, My Book of Colors. In recent years he has continued to work on various projects including the calendar Snoring Blood, the book The Secrets of Hollywood, and the popular Bunnywith book and toy series. Pardee's illustrations and paintings are brought to life by translating shapes and colors into signs of torment and absurdity. By juxtaposing these two conflicting moods, he makes the work personal to the viewer, forcing them to project their own feelings and emotions onto each character that lives in this morbid world. Alex Pardee's art has recently gained the attention of Warner Bros., Reprise Records, Freeze Management, Hurley International, and Twenty Twenty Skateboards (and many more). In 2004, Pardee was asked by the gold-selling rock group The Used to design the artwork for their album, In Love and Death. His designs have since been used for the band's art direction and merchandise, Web site and music video for the single "All That I've Got."
