Description
In dance circles, it’s commonly known that Duke Albrecht has been doing wrong by Giselle since 1841. That’s close to 200 years of audiences watching the classical ballet, in which a nobleman takes advantage of a peasant girl in love. Some stories transcend their date of creation while retaining their relevance in any era. Ballet San Jose, in honor of the newfound political and cultural detente between the United States and Cuba, is staging Alicia Alonso’s version of Giselle. Alonso, choreographer and founder of Ballet Nacional de Cuba, chose SV Ballet’s artistic director José Manuel Carreño to re-stage her most famous work. (JE)Silicon Valley Ballet (formerly Ballet San Jose) is opening their 2015/2016 season with an exciting performance, Alicia Alonso's Giselle.
This collaboration with one of Cuba's most famous choreographers could not have come at a better time! Join us as the first American company allowed to perform this thrilling take on a classic masterpiece.
