Like any band that dares to explore new realms of fusion through the vehicle of traditional music, the Gipsy Kings have been under constant fire from the purist minority for much of their storied career. But as their staggering worldwide popularity attests, the rest of us don’t really care that the Kings defiantly shatter the molds of convention, in fact, we encourage it. Brothers Nicolas and Andre Reyes formed the group in the ‘70s under the pretense of traditional flamenco, but in just a few short years the band evolved into a powerful fusion group bolstered by Tonino Baliardo’s impeccable guitar skills and Nicolas’ exceptional vocal talent. The Kings have endured as one of the most exciting live acts on earth, releasing a steady stream of highly acclaimed material that seems perfectly suited for the ballroom stage.
