Having already performed with Lewis Nash, Roy Hargrove, Diana Krall and Clark Terry, Clayton’s recent elevation to bandleader is just part of a natural progression. His spring-loaded approach to complex harmonies and irregular time signatures is shown to best advantage in this trio, which features bassist Joe Sanders and drummer Justin Brown. Their 2009 release Two-Shade (Artist Share) provides the launch pad for a concert packed with certain to amaze improvisational forays.
