Alto saxophonist Gary Bartz and pianist George Cables have been at the forefront of modern jazz for decades: Bartz, with Miles Davis, Max Roach, Abbey Lincoln, Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner, Charles Mingus and as a member of Sphere. George Cables got his start with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and relocated to the West Coast in the 1970’s.
