Description
The first concert features works by Russian composers Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovitch, and others. Like Russia's history, their music tells stories of love and war, of passion and politics. Enjoy an evening or afternoon performance full of passionate melodies, sumptious harmonies, and lush Russian expressiveness.Ian Scarfe, Artistic Director and pianist, has pulled together a distinguished group of musicians for the first concert of the season. Scarfe is currently a music associate at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He is founder and director of the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival, which is dedicated to bringing classical music to the people of the remote mountains in northern Californa. Joining Scarfe are nationally and internationally-known violinist Roy Malan (on the faculty at UCSC), violinist Philip Brezina (with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra and co-founder of the Trinity Alps festival), cellist of the acclaimed Ives String Quartet, Stephen Harrison (on the faculty at Stanford University), and Polly Malan, who has performed viola in numerous local and regional events.
