Description

FROM MILL VALLEY TO MOOSE PASS – Ken Waldman will host an evening that connects the grandeur of Marin County to that of Alaska. He'll be joined by West Coast fiddler, piper, and raconteur, Kevin Carr; by Bay Area singer, guitarist, and fiddler, Ray Bierl; and by Bay Area duo, Evie Ladin and Keith Terry.

Waldman combines old-time Appalachian-style fiddling, original poetry, and mostly Alaska-set storytelling for a performance uniquely his own. The Mill Valley appearance is part of a three-week West Coast tour. Ken Waldman will introduce the opening sets with a brief poem tied to Alaska and the music, then let the musicians take off. For his own concluding set, he'll be joined by various musical configurations. By the end, he promises a full-blown music party/mini-festival, complete with Evie Ladin's clogging, and perhaps special guests. The evening will appeal to anyone who enjoys traditional string-band music, powerful singing, exciting dancing, smart poetry, acclaimed storytelling, or Alaska. Begin the evening in Mill Valley, then journey to Moose Pass and back.

Kevin Carr is simply one of the masters of traditional music of his generation. A fiddler, piper, guitarist, storyteller, and singer, he's currently part of the acclaimed group, Wake the Dead, which merges Celtic music with repertoire of the Grateful Dead. For the past thirty years he's also been fiddling with Ray Bierl in The Hillbillies from Mars. http://www.kevincarr.org.

Ray Bierl has been a professional musician for close to five decades, and his experience is mythic: from accompanying Idaho singer Rosalie Sorrells, to playing twin fiddle for the rocking Northern California dance band, The Hillbillies From Mars, to accumulating accolades, like this quote from Tom Waits: “No one knows how to weave you into a song quite like Ray Bierl.” http://www.raybierl.com

Keith Terry and Evie Ladin are an extraordinary husband and wife. Body percussionist, Keith Terry directs his own visionary body percussion project, Crosspulse, where he performs, teaches, and produces events. A long-time internationally touring artist, he's also been a Guggenheim fellow. Banjo player, singer, and clogger, Evie Ladin, is a driving force behind the all-woman traditional music band, The Stairwell Sisters, and also fronts the Evie Ladin Band. http://www.evieladin.com and http://www.crosspulse.com
