Description
Freezepop has always been something of an oxymoron: embraced by both hipsters and nerds; serious about irony; and retro-futuristic. A synth band in a guitar videogame, singing pop songs about rock. And it all somehow makes sense when you listen to the music. Formed in Boston in the summer of 1999, Freezepop is comprised of Liz Enthusiasm (vocalist/designer),the Duke of Pannekoeken (producer/vocalist/programmer), and Sean Drinkwater (synthesizers/programmer/vocalist). Within eight months, Freezepop had released two homemade EPs and started a DIY machine that would become one of their trademarks. Their debut album, 2000’s Freezepop Forever, was released domestically on their own label, Archenemy, as well as licensed in Europe by the Spanish indiepop label Elefant. Several more EPs followed, and in 2004, Freezepop released their sophomore album, Fancy Ultra•Fresh. After nearly eight years of self-releasing their CDs, they partnered with Rykodisc/Cordless Recordings for their most recent album, Future Future Future Perfect. Their single “Less Talk More Rokk” was the iTunes #4 dance/electronic song of 2007, and the band recently swept the Boston Phoenix/WFNX Best Music Poll 2008, winning the local categories of Best Band, Best Live Act, and Best Album.Fresh from their headlining performance at last Thursday's Popscene, Lilofee kicks the show off at 9:30PM so get there early. The buzz on this local SF act is massive. Lilofee buzzes, glitters, glowers, and breathes an electric seduction. No surprise that front-couple Rob Easson and Kimi Recor are engaged in "one of the grandest musical love affairs," transcending national and international boundaries. Lilofee performs live with bassist Cyrus Etemad and drummer Dan Aquino. Expect an urban art rock experience punctuated by long eyelashes and torn stockings. Their album "The Only Years" drops later this summer.
Electric Valentine: This new wave duo composed of Lauren Baird and Chris Qualls is tearing up the dance floor with catchy tracks like “A Night With You” so don’t keep ‘em waiting. Lauren engages attention from the first note, and it is clear that she possesses raging star power. You can barely take your eyes off of her long enough to watch Chris, but his show is just as impressive. Even more amazing than the live performance is the stereo quality sound that comes from this outfit. Despite her petite stature, Lauren is mysteriously sexy with her short, jet black hair and will leave you betting; “All On Black.”
