Intriguing ideas on how to look back and move forward.
FREEDOM HOUSE is a dance art experience with voice over of Oaklanders talking about civil rights. Their stories are real, personal experiences confronting challenging topics with love and inspiration. These stories offer an insightful look into what it is like to live in Oakland as a person of color.
During the performance, security cameras will be used to capture, manipulate, and re-project a variety of perspectives on the choreography, alluding to the way in which different people's view of the same experience can be dramatically affected by their perspectives.
A collaboration between choreographer/Artistic Director Claudine Naganuma, Composer/ Marimba Lumina Joel Davel with Saxophonist Richard Howell, Lighting Design by Dale MacDonald and Real time projection by Tim Thompson. Publicity photos by Matt Haber.
