Foothill College will screen "Don't Tell Anyone" ("No Le Digas a Nadie"), a 75-minute documentary that chronicles the journeys of undocumented students, Wednesday, April 13, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Smithwick Theatre. Doors open at 6 p.m and the film begins at 6:15 p.m. Following the film, a panel discussion begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free; an RSVP is requested; parking is $3. In addition to watching this important film, audiences will hear a panel discussion that features the film's star, Angy Rivera, and her mother, Maria Rivera, as well as one of the film's producers and local advocates for undocumented students.

Called a celebration of inclusion and diversity, "Don't Tell Anyone" ("No Le Digas a Nadie") focuses on Angy Rivera, who since age 4, has lived in the U.S. with a secret that threatens to upend her life: She is undocumented. Just 24 years old when the film was made, Rivera, from Colombia, becomes an activist for undocumented youth with a popular advice blog and YouTube channel. She also shares her story of sexual abuse–an experience all too common among undocumented women.

The film shows Rivera and eventually her mother as part of a courageous movement working to change the conversation around immigration in this country. By following Angy, her family, and her community, we witness firsthand the real consequences of being undocumented in America. With more than 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. today, there has been renewed focus on how to properly recognize and systematize this substantial and extremely integrated group operating outside of established government agencies, many of whom have no options for a pathway to citizenship.

A production of Portret Films in association with POV, Latino Public Broadcasting and Independent Television Service, the film received major funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The film and panel discussion are sponsored by the Foothill College Family Engagement Institute, a program that is described as a multigenerational model that provides developmentally and culturally responsive programs and professional development to promote family engagement, school and workforce readiness, and pathways to postsecondary education.
