Description
Featuring Samuel Read Levine and Ian Scarfe (of Classical Revolution), tonight's performance of Franz Schubert's epic song cycle “Winterreise”—written in 1827—tells the story of one man’s harrowing journey. Abandoned by his lover and friends, he sets out into the winter alone on a path to despair and madness. Originally a set of poems by Wilhelm Müller, Schubert made these song settings only a year before his death, while he was dying slowly of syphilis.Samuel Read Levine is an exciting young tenor committed to both new and traditional works. He made his Bay Area debut in West Bay Opera's production of Carmen in 2008, and has performed regularly with Classical Revolution since 2007.
Ian Scarfe is an extremely active and versatile performer in the Bay Area’s classical music scene. He can be heard often with the Classical Revolution in many roles: as accompanist, soloist, and chamber musician.
