Description
Formations touches on order and chaos found in the natural and manmade world and the precipitated reactions when the two worlds collide. In this two-person exhibition artists Victoria Wagner and Erik Parra each tackle this theme with their own style and approach. With painting, drawings and sculpture, Victoria Wagner dissects nature and the order of matter and light with her explosive, yet feminine geometries that transcend structure and function. Through her work, Wagner searches for softness in the complication of life. The function of man on the landscape is central in the playful, yet skilled drawings, paintings and collages of Erik Parra. His mixed media work is a blend of exploding color and intricate black and white rendering, where man’s presence is the catalyst for chaos. Parra’s paintings are a juxtaposition of grand natural formations and geometric, human built structures. The pictorial landscapes are marred by the presence of unnaturally bright tents, domes and parka clad humans.
