FIVE AWARD-WINNING PENINSULA ARTISTS TO EXHIBIT PAINTINGS, JEWELRY AND FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY IN MENLO PARK

Meet the Artists May 5-6 and May 19-20 During 2012 Silicon Valley Open Studios

Menlo Park, Calif. – Five award-winning Peninsula artists -- Alice Weil, Julia Munger Seelos, Lynn Montoya, Kim Holl and Frances Freyberg -- will exhibit paintings, jewelry and fine art photography in Menlo Park during the 2012 Silicon Valley Open Studios. The free event will take place the weekends of May 5-6 and May 19-20, from 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at a group site at 856 Partridge Avenue in Menlo Park. Visitors are encouraged to come speak with the artists in person and see their latest works, all in one convenient location.

This event is part of the 26th annual Silicon Valley Open Studios, where hundreds of local artists open their studios to the public during the first three weekends in May. This unique event is open to the general public, art enthusiasts, art collectors and investors, and art students. Open Studios allow visitors to discover new artistic talent or get up close and personal with favorite artists.

About the Artists

Alice Weil of Menlo Park finds peace painting under the shade of the mighty oaks as they grace the golden hills of the Stanford property and outlying areas. Her paintings reflect the power and strength of the Bay Area landscape, omitting the hand of man in her paintings. Inspired by the fog laden hills, and passionate about the feeling of the paint on canvas, Weil wants the viewer to be taken away to a quiet relaxed place in her paintings. http://www.aliceweil.com

Julia Munger Seelos of Redwood City is regularly invited to the major plein air events and exhibitions throughout the West. From abandoned barns and rusting old trucks set against the California hills to the rocky coast, Julia creates dynamic works in oil. Seelos is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society and the Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association. http://www.juliaseelosgallery.com

Lynn Montoya of Redwood City handcrafts jewelry using natural stones accented with crystals and sterling silver. An expert in wax-casting, hand wrought work and beading, Montoya strives for a “feng shui” design in her jewelry, balancing color, shape, weight and materials. http://www.etsy.com/shop/crystalynstudio

Kim Holl of Portola Valley paints primarily “en plein air” outdoors and "alla prima" when working on studio paintings. Both techniques require the artist to identify and capture ideas by simplifying the motif to its essential compositional components. To accomplish this simplification, the three main elements she works with are massing of shapes, direction of light and properties of color. http://www.kimholl.com

Frances Freyberg of Menlo Park specializes in vibrant color portraits of people, wildlife, nature and architecture from her travels to more than 60 countries. Her photos may be found in galleries and private collections worldwide, as well as online at http://www.francesfreyberg.com. During the weekend of May 5-6, Freyberg will donate her net proceeds to local nonprofit Mission Hospice & Home Care, to support the organization’s hospice house project.
