On Wednesday January 15, 2020 at 7:30 PM, in the basement of the Los Altos Masonic Lodge (close to the elevator and the stairs), 146 Main Street, Los Altos, the De Anza Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will feature a program by Mike Stewart, of Dover Nurseries, on Dwarf Rhododendrons.
Dwarf rhododendrons are found in the northern regions of our planets, and above the tree line. A dwarf rhododendron, Rhododendron lapponicum, is found in Greenland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, northern Russia, Alaska, Canada; and Wisconsin and the northeastern states of the United States.
Rhododendron lapponicum can be found on Mount Washington in New Hampshire.[email protected]/9202003612/
These are examples of dwarf rhododendrons.
Mike Stewart went on Rhododendron Species Foundation trips to Sikkim, Eastern Tibet, Yunnan, Sichuan, eastern Canada, and Alaska to photograph dwarf and other rhododendrons.
Since dwarf rhododendron species generally grow above the tree line, in growing them it is best to duplicate their environment. The nurseryman Allan Korth successfully grew dwarf rhododendron species in track fines, which is decomposed granite.
