Description
In today's Hollywood-blockbuster film industry, only 12% of the top grossing films are directed by minorities and about 7% are directed by women, even though women and minorities account for more than half of frequent moviegoers. In light of that data, Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center (APICC) proudly presents Filmmakers on the Fringe - a screening highlighting diverse short films by local emerging Asian Pacific Islander (API) female filmmakers, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A about the filmmakers' work and their experiences as API women in the film industry. Presenting films that are unique yet relatable, pop-y and provocative, these filmmakers address issues and stories pertinent to their own lives and their respective communities.
FEATURING:
Jerilyn Guerrero (Le Baked Noms, documentary)
Katelind Ikuma (Hawaiian Hipster, narrative)
Laura Priscilla Paule (Sam & Syl, narrative)
Sally Tran (Deconstructing My Depression, documentary)
Panel moderated by Valerie Soe (educator, writer, activist, and film/video artist)
Please join us to experience the works of these bright, emerging storytellers and to learn about their experiences being on the fringe.
