ON THE EDGE: IMPROVISATION
(1992 Jeremy Marre, Derek Bailey)
A legendary miniseries about improvisational music in all of its forms. Written by guitarist Derek Bailey and based on his seminal book Improvisation: Its Nature and Practice in Music, the program includes everything from traditional Korean music to liturgical pipe organ performance to Jerry Garcia to free jazz. Fascinating films - and required viewing for anyone interested in musical invention.
