Fibershed Fashion Gala

Description

The Fibershed Fashion Gala celebrates our regional ‘soil-to-skin’ design, utilizing raw farmed fiber from our local ‘Greater Bay Area’ farm and rangelands. We have teamed up local designers with farmers to create a range of garments that express the language of our landscape. We are building a regional fiber system much like the work being done to localize food systems—we see the importance of celebrating while educating our community about the importance of using natural local resources to create clothing for local populations. Given the state of our synthetic and exploitative fashion industry, it is vital to articulate and model a working alternative to ‘fast fashion’ that supports our local artisans, farmers, ranchers, and the health and wellbeing of our community of wearers.

The event presents a 30’s themed runway show with garments designed by talented local designers and made entirely of wool and organic cotton grown on local farms, and dyed with locally grown natural dyes. The Fashion Gala will also include a live auction, and a shopping marketplace featuring our fashion gala designers and farmers, as well as sustainable goods and services from local Bay Area businesses. In addition to regionally sourced fashions, guests will enjoy organic appetizers and locally distilled beverages from our bioregion, as well as live music.
