Description
The 1ST International Body Music Festival at various venues in San Francisco and Oakland from Tuesday, December 2 to Sunday, December 7. Over six days, the festival will feature concerts, workshops, teacher trainings, a lecture-demonstration, a body music open-mic, a family matinee, and in-school assembly programs. The Festival will present body musicians performing traditional and contemporary pieces from the U.S., Brazil, Indonesia, Turkey, Canada’s Arctic, and other popping, stomping, humming corners of the world.A showcase of short sets by Festival Artists, featuring international guests, local practitioners and the commissioned piece by the Kecak Project.The Kecak Project, the joint effort of extraordinary young Balinese composer Dewa Putu Barata with members of two Oakland-based gamelan ensembles, Gamelan Sekar Jaya and Gamelan X, will create a new kecak piece specifically for the festival.
