Description

FAT OPIE is based in the San Francisco area. Their debut CD “Biscuits” led to a management contract with Lookout Management in LA. The second release, “Hipsters, Freaks, Fags & Homeboys”, introduced their varied instrumentation including banjos, mandolin, accordion and Moog pedals. The band toured extensively for “Hipsters” and gained airplay and national press including an article in ALTERNATIVE PRESS MAGAZINE. The following release “Airstream”, is a more complex record both in songwriting and production, it gave FAT OPIE two of their biggest successes. The song “Bullets in My Briefcase” won a national band search sponsored by 7-UP/SONICNET that included a prize of $15,000. The song “Mouth Like a Trucker” was featured in the motion picture ALONG THE WAY.

In 2003, Scott Mickelson, Robin Hildebrant and Dave Tavel regrouped as a trio and released the acoustic CD “OTIS”. Soon after, Mickelson became seriously ill and the music stopped until 2007. During that time Hildebrant began building his own recording studio. Inspired by the new possibilities, Mickelson started writing their strongest material to date. Now utilizing the same varied instrumentations and far-reaching production they are back as FAT OPIE.

In 2009, FAT OPIE signed with Blue Pie Records. The first two new tracks “New Orleans” and “Said + Done” have received 1,000’s of internet and FM radio plays including:

• RaisedOnIndie.com “Track Of The Day”
