Description

Lynda Grose Silva is an Associate Professor of California College of the Arts, author and industry consultant on sustainability. Today, Lynda and her students will "perform" on a Brother Silver Reed machine by knitting on command. Watch the pattern emerge as they "play." Once the bane of Luddites, knitting devices have been around since the 1300's. Today’s knitting machines use needles, cams and punch cards to create complex patterns of wearable texture and topology. Contrary to what you might think, these machines don't do all the work for you. Using a knitting machine is an art and a skill of its own.
