Description
Though he grew up in another state, David Jacobs-Strain found one of his earliest and biggest inspirations in Santa Cruz’s own Bob Brozman. Only a couple of years after picking up his first guitar at age 9, Jacobs-Strain saw two shows in his native Oregon that would change his life. One was Taj Mahal. The next was Brozman. Soon after, he started trying to recreate Brozman’s slide technique, and busking on street corners (which is how Brozman started his own career, right on Pacific Avenue). By high school, he had made enough to buy himself a National Steel guitar.Beginning in his teens, he was considered a blues prodigy. Now 28, he’s mastered a remarkable guitar technique that incorporates many styles, both as a solo artist and in his electric string group the Crunk Mountain Boys. As that name suggests, Jacobs-Strains is known for his humor as well as his musical passion.
At this show Jacobs-Strain will open for roots band Grant Farm and NorCal singer-songwriter Huckle.
The show will be collecting food for the Music for Food program, and those who bring two or more cans of food will receive a free CD.
