San Francisco, CA -- It's been three years since Summersalt debuted in San Francisco at Fort Mason Center, highlighted by musical performances by acts such as Zion-I, The Rapture, K.Flay, Music For Animals (Nova Albion), and an impromptu performance by hip-hop original Warren G.
This year, Summersalt returns to showcase an even bigger variety of music within an intimate day-light block party setting, featuring performances by The Grouch & Eligh, Felix Cartal, Kill Paris, Midi Matilda, Big Black Delta, K Theory, Jay Ant, Aaron Axelsen, and many more.
The quest to revive this locally beloved festival took the newly unique 'crowdfunding’ approach and raised over $15,000 in just under 3 weeks to help bring the event back this year. Fans, friends, and local music lovers in the know, chipped in ahead of time to 'Crowdtilt' the event, and according to 'CrowdTilt', will be one of the first-ever crowdfunded music festivals. Since then, the event has been on sale through more traditional ticketing means via Eventbrite.com.
With the recent explosion of "mega festivals" funded by large corporations, which sometimes can have a very impersonal vibe, EyeHeartSF has taken the opposite route funding the event through organic means and producing the event on a more manageable and personalized scale. "Once upon a time, Music festivals were about getting a trailblazing group of like-minded people together to build something unique, in hopes to enjoy music, art, food and generally just feeling free from the everyday grind," said EyeHeartSF’s Nate Mezmer. "With Summersalt, we are striving to build something that feels very real using that same approach, to create a home grown happening that focuses on the individuals experience, from the way they are able to learn about new music, to the manner in which they are able to interact and share the experience with others."
Continuing with the local vibes, the fest will feature food by Top Chef's Chef Josie’s Soul Food Kitchen, a pop-up at Thee Parkside which is partnering with EyeHeartSF on the event and shares the block with the event. Other notable eats include, Hapa SF, the modern organic Filipino food truck, as well as Savourie Streets food truck which specializes in American Comfort Food.
Summersalt is also helping to raise money and awareness for "Mural Music & Arts Project," a local non-profit organization that offers year-round youth development programs centered around music and the arts. One of their target schools in San Francisco is International Studies Academy in Potrero Hill which Summersalt and EyeHeartSF will be directly benefitting in efforts to bring a 25ft tall mural to the front of the campus, created by the students themselves.
