Throughout his life Jack has been preoccupied with the environment, both natural and man-made. As a young boy growing up in a small country town he spent much of his free time in the woods often creating shelters by enhancing existing hollow spaces under shrubbery, weaving in extra twigs and branches – not unlike the way other denizens built their homes.

Years later during his architectural career he became increasingly more concerned with, and disillusioned by all the generic mediocre glass boxes that were being erected around the planet, obscuring the great architecture of the past. And so in much of his earlier work Jack paid homage to some of the architectural gems of the old world, which gave his work as a printmaker a focus and a theme.
