Description

Led by Asher's tenacious trombone and sweet vocals, this all-star ensemble from New York City's vibrant early jazz scene presents a hot and charming celebration of one of the first great American singer-songwriters, Hoagy Carmichael. A joyful evening of original songs and reverently re-imagined arrangements of Carmichael classics such as "Stardust," “Up A Lazy River” and "Georgia On My Mind” will satisfy the most traditional jazz enthusiast to the modern jazz aficionado. The Wall Street Journal calls Emily Asher's Garden Party "a deliberately prosaic name deviously calculated to describe a very exciting combo” and explains: “In traditional jazz, the trombone comes closest to the human voice, although up to now it's rarely been cast as a distinctly female voice… Ms. Asher plays with both grit and grace.” Michael Steinman of JAZZ LIVES writes: “Emily and her friends have understood something deep about the delicate balance between honoring the originals and creating something new.” Garden Party includes Emily Asher on Trombone and Vocals, Mike Davis on Trumpet and Vocals, Tom Abbot, reeds, Nick Russo, Guitar , Rob Adkins, Bass and Jay Lepley on drums.
