It sounds kind of cliche at this point, but thanks to Obama's Election, the hope surrounding 2009 is something that's truly worth celebrating. Not that the past years have been as sober as they have been sobering, but now the booze is going to be used to lubricate the joy rather than drown the sorrow. At this year's Eclectic Fever, the name says it all. With live Afrofunk, samba, and hip-hop performances, this New Year's soirée features a hip-shaking cornucopia of world music, plus a special appearance by SF club night all-stars Nonstop Bhangra. An array of dancers back up the music, shaking their stuff in both modern and traditional international styles. The event is also a full-fledged masquerade ball offering prizes for best costume, with Carnival-style masks highly encouraged.
