Description

This month Dystopia presents a very special evening celebrating Halloween (The best holiday of the year) and DJ R3M’s aka Michael Remson’s birthday. We have a stellar evening planned for all of our fam bam, supporters and loyal Dystopian’s which will include an incredible lineup, delicious food, tasty beverages and a costume contest during the show. Prizes will be presented to the 1st and 2nd runner up…So attending in costume is strongly encouraged…

So with that said, let us take back our freedom to celebrate LIFE and make Oakland’s premiere Drum and Bass monthly HUGE for October.

Dystopia is every fourth Friday of the month and hosted by Primitive Science. Come get lobotomized to the tunes of DnB talent from all over the landscape and indoctrinated by the verses of our MC's!

Featuring the Soundtrack to This Conjuration of Cthulhu:

APHONIC (Elevated Press, SubLife, Lifestyle)
http://soundcloud.com/aphonicmusik

Hailing from opposite ends of California, Kevin and Devon met nearly a decade ago under undoubtedly uncommon circumstances - video game tournaments. The two were top players of - wait for it - a DJ game.

Broadening their musical tastes with the help of the radically eclectic soundtracks from the game, the two had their phases with genre obsessions, from trance to hardcore to glam rock to trip hop until finally landing on drum and bass. It didn't take long after hearing the diversity the genre had to offer that they became completely engrossed in it, with the sounds of Pendulum, ShyFX, Klute, Chase & Status, Evol Intent, Phace and countless others all shaping their tastes.

It took nearly 3 years of club nights, raves, bedroom DJing and the sound of mutilating bass until the two decided the time was right to dive into learning to produce their own tracks. From the ground up, the two taught themselves every single thing they know today about production, and after about a year of messing about, came forward with Aphonic in 2009.

Drawing inspiration from any and all forms of music, Aphonic do not limit themselves to any one sound with their productions. While drum and bass is the forefront of their output, the two have a passion and ear for nearly all sub-genres of electronic music, and would only be kidding themselves if they tried to officially label themselves to a certain style.

DJ DELON (Selector, FreeFlo, Jupiter)
http://soundcloud.com/djdelon

DJ Delon aka Alain Grissette started DJ'ing in 1997 as a musical outlet to compliment his role as band booker of the Jupiter in Berkeley. Focusing his sound primarily on downtempo and drum&bass, Delon and his DJ cohort Yamu Myles created Beatdown Thursdays at Jupiter that had an unheralded run as one of the preeminent East Bay DJ nights of the late 90's/early-2000's. Adding the talents of DJ Big Willie Adams and Michael 'Add1' Addicott, they created The Beatdown Sound and held down multiple regular gigs at bars and restaurants in SF and Oakland, mixing multiple styles into a progressive sound that was always fresh and never predictable. As part of SF's thriving drum&bass scene during the 2000's, Delon has produced a litany of smoking drum&bass mixes, rocked parties and clubs from Bimbos, Mighty, The Cellar, Amnesia, and Anu, and has played along side the likes of DJ Freya, Audio Angel, Cyan, Kuze, R3M and Megatron. Continuing his role as Music Director of the Jupiter in Berkeley, where he can be found spinning every 2nd Thursday for their Selector night (now in its 10th year), as well as regulars in SF (Laszlo) and Oakland (Mua), Delon's DJ style reflects his unique musical sensibilities, encompassing multiple styles and genres, and stressing a sound that is always soulful, eclectic, and funky.

For the Dystopia show on Oct 28, check out the mix below on his SoundCloud site for a taste of what to expect, featuring soul-drenched rollers and funky vocal steppers that keep your butt grooving.

RESOLVE (Primitive Science)
http://soundcloud.com/dj_resolve

Been mixing all styles of music for over 20 years and focusing mainly on drum and bass as my primary "performing" genre. Grew up with the hip hop culture since the early eighties and expanded my horizons with the progression of electronic dance music in the nineties with genres such as garage, trip hop, jungle, and breaks. Began performing in the California rave scene since early 2000 and have worked with many great crews and artists since.

Drum and Bass is my favorite genre to mix and I have released many mixes representing the best artists in the industry. I also DJ at weddings and specialize in having everything the bride and groom want to hear on their special day. Being a DJ is not about being a rockstar, it is my way of expressing myself and sharing a world of music.

I represent bay area's Primitive Science Crew who have some of the best dj's in the world. You can learn more about their weekly radio shows and events at http://www.anotha-level.com.

THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU aka R3M B2B DR WHO (Primitive Science, Apex, Outlet)

The Adjustment Bureau was formed in 2011 by veteran DJ R3M and North Bay Renegade champion Dr Who. This newly formed tag team has been making waves in the Bay Area with bass rattling Drum & Bass ranging from rolling Liquid Funk, Neuro and a splash of Ragga Jungle. The Adjustment Bureau are multi-genre performers known for leaving no dance floor empty and rocking dancers into mosh pit frenzies. When the Adjustment Bureau hits the decks, you know it’s time to move and groove.
