Description
These are intimate workshops limited to 6 adults per session - a mixture of pure play, spiritual presence and conscious awareness. They take place in Maya's personal art studio in San Francisco's Mission District. Everyone is an artist. Come see why.A note from Maya about the class:
"I've recently rediscovered my great love of dolls. And boom! I made nearly 20 of them without thinking. I momentarily forgot how mysterious, whimsical, free spirited and wildly expressive a handmade doll can be. A doll can recall childhood experience, embody the present moment, inspire, comfort, heal, humor and decorate all at the same time. In the name of great *dollie* goodness and a severe love of handicrafts, we will explore a number of doll aesthetics to guide you into concocting the most monstrously magical expression of doll-ness possible to come out of your perfect fingertips. We will look at how to use felt, recycled cloth, embroidery, machine quilting, hand sewing and making our own patterns as tools. The focus I bring to doll making is a blend of global, folk, high quality hippie craft, unusual, spiritual, vintage and primitive rag dolls. Dolls bring me to a place of presence and playfulness while gathering numerous areas of my life that are profound and complicated. Doll making is a journey of self. "
- Basic materials will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring any cloth, clothes, buttons, appliqués, old dolls, ribbons, etc, etc, etc… that you would like to potentially include in your doll making experience.
