Description

Berkeley’s Dharma College presents free summer lectures to introduce its school, curriculum and vision to the Bay Area community. The informal talks are designed to introduce fresh and life-changing ways to understand the nature of one’s mind. The talks aim to encourage individuals to explore and develop their inner resources and to awaken new and transformative understanding. An informal reception with selected faculty follows each presentation.

• On Saturday, August 4, Dharma College Co-Director Curt Caton and instructor Pema Gellek will address the challenges and joys of spiritual life in a talk entitled “Of What Earthly Good is a Spiritual Life in the 21st Century? A Catholic and a Tibetan Buddhist Converse.”

• On Saturday, August 18, instructor Jack Petranker will speak about the complex, but often amusing relationship between language and mind in a talk entitled “I, Me and Mine Walked Into a Bar . . .and Other Funny Stories About Language and Self.”

Other summer offerings include an exhibit: The Sacred Art of Tibet, Art of the Buddha’s Teachings - Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m. on July 14, 28 and August 11, 25 and September 8, 2012.
