Description
Derick was born and raised in Oakland, CA. He began singing at the age of two and never stopped. As a teen he was recruited by the University of California at Berkeley's Young Musician’s Program where he developed his craft under the guidance of various mentors and music industry professionals. His father is the fabulous Freddie Hughes, known for his classic 1968 hit, “Send My Baby Back.”Derick currently tours with the legendary Roberta Flack and is in the studio working on his new solo CD. His distinctive voice (which covers a range of five octaves) and velvet background vocals has been heard on various tours and recording projects which include Norman Connors, Prince and The New Power Generation, Tower of Power, the Hawkins Family, and Michael Bolton.
Look for Derick’s new CD entitled: Blue Soul…to be released early 2010.
